From Scholar to Apprentice: Transitioning a Garden Enrichment Therapy Program into an On-Campus Enterprise

Student: Christina Rahal
Community Partner: Jacksonville School for Autism
The project was designed with the purpose of educating students with autism about the positive impact of the Gardening Enrichment Therapy Program at Jacksonville School for Autism. This place is dedicated to help students in building their interpersonal growth and social knowledge for the demands of life. JSA’s mission revolves around opportunities that provide students with a hands-on and sensory rich experience which can help improve their motor skills, social interactions, and inclusion in society. The Gardening Enrichment Therapy Program is currently expanding into an agro-business that offers enterprising systems to an aging population of students who need long-term sustainability. This will prospect students with potential vocational training and skill acquisition that can be beneficial for future employment.
